Solicore Launches Field Trials of Power Solution for Next Generation Time-Based OTP and RFID Platforms
Lakeland, Fla.—November 8, 2007—In the battery world, smaller is getting more powerful. In response to overwhelming demand from Powered Card and RFID card manufacturers for a version of their paper-thin Flexion® battery with a higher capacity, Solicore has responded with the first ever 50 mAh battery, which will begin field testing in early 2008. Designed for use in Powered Cards, Flexion batteries enable one time password (OTP), sonic password and timed security functions.
As manufacturers gear up to debut the next generation of OTP and RFID platforms, they require a more powerful battery to enable enhanced functionality. Soon, OTP cards will run a time-based feature, for example, generating new passwords dynamically over a specified time interval to provide an extra layer of security not currently available with the event-based platforms today. This advancement, as well as the new security functions and sleeker designs of future RFID applications, drives demand for smaller, more powerful batteries that are aligned with the advanced product designs.
“As we start seeing the next advanced phase of OTP cards and RFID applications, the need for more powerful and smaller batteries will increase. Being the pioneers in this industry, we are taking the lead in developing products that not only meet but also anticipate the needs of our customers,” says David Corey, CEO of Solicore. “We responded to the collective demand of the industry by engineering a new standard 50 mAh, which, after it passes the testing phase, will be the most powerful thin-film battery available on the market.”
Solicore is currently partnered with over 15 companies for the testing phase of the 50 mAh Flexion battery. As a pioneer in the thin-film battery field, Solicore is constantly seeking new ways to increase the capacity of their Flexion batteries in order to improve the functionality and security of the devices they power.
