Solicore Introduces Industry's First Self Connecting Batteries

Paris, France – November 2, 2004. Today at CARTES & ID SECURITY 2004, Solicore, Inc., a leading provider of ultra-thin, flexible, lithium polymer batteries, announced that it has significantly improved the design and ease of use of its FlexionTM line of primary and secondary batteries.

According to Michael Mahan, Solicore’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, “Solicore has made two key design improvements on our Flexion batteries that significantly improve our product while simplifying the manufacturing process. We now utilize anisotropic conductive tape on all of our batteries. This self connecting, conductive tape eliminates the need for welding or soldering the battery’s terminals to the product. All that is necessary is applying pressure to our battery’s terminals and the circuit traces or power leads of the customer’s product.”

Mahan went on to say “We have also added a tab protecting backsplash to all of our batteries. This backsplash protects the battery’s terminals throughout the entire supply chain from battery manufacturing, to shipping, and finally to integration into our customer’s product. Other battery manufacturers’ cells incorporate flying leads which can bend, break, or short out completely.”

According to Mahan, Solicore is the first and only leading battery manufacturer to incorporate these features into their products and that both of these enhancements are compatible with high speed automation or integration equipment. “These two improvements will allow the streamlining of our customer’s battery integration process which will also reduce the overall cost of their product” stated Mahan.

Finally, Mahan indicated that the company was very excited to have been considered for the prestigious Sesame Award which is given out annually at CARTES for the best new product introduced in the past year. “It is an honor to have been considered for this very special award which is given to the smart card industry’s leading suppliers and innovators.”
